Aggressive and temperamental Ex Hastings Town striker. Leading scorer for Hailsham in 2000/01 with 25 Goals. Transferred to Westfield the following season and has continued to find the net on a regular basis, becoming a permanent fixture in the county league scoring charts and rated as one of the best finishers in the league.
Ridiculed in the dressing room for his penchant for controlling everything with his chest, and for his trade mark 'Chest Cruff' that most defenders somehow continue to fall for. He does however redeem himself as organiser of the now legendary Westfield ‘End of Season’ night out (night-out being somewhat of an understatement!)
Expected to be the fiery and temperamental element of the new trinity. As a player, he is a man with an eye for the flare and beauty of the game, yet surprisingly as a manager has developed a defensive streak and a love of simplicity and clean-sheets; something that sees his backline constantly in the cross hairs.
Mark 'The Hole' Drinkwater - The Voice of Reason/The Man from the Dug-out
The best centre-back to have pulled on a Westfield shirt, but who, as of this season, has stepped down from playing after a succession of injury problems. Mark will be the constant man in the technical area, the voice of reason, and the key-part of the three piece management team as he assess from the sides what Tony and Duncan can't see from the pitch (if they make the starting line-up that is). A hugely lovable guy with a fantastic working knowledge of the game and much to the squads dismay, an alarming sadistic streak when it comes to training.
The Players - Looking For Silverware!
Gavin ‘The Monk’ Bourne - Goalkeeper
Returning from a season long sabbatical, Westfield are proud to welcome back 'The Monk' who returns to the Parish Field despite being courted by both Rye and Hasting United. Brave, and like all great keepers slightly unhinged, Gavin is seen as one of the best keepers in the area. A fantastic shoot stopper with a penchant for penalty heroics
Dan 'Foz' Foster - Goalkeeper
One of the most underrated players in the area and another tremendous addition to the squad. A fantastic keeper with huge potential who will be pushing for the No 1 jersey all season. An incredibly amiable guy who is also a more than capable deputy in front of goal as well as between the sticks (he’d say prolific but that may be pushing it!)
Tom 'Dullaz' Dullaway - Goalkeeper
A frightening talent for a lad of his age. Tall and agile with great reactions. Tom will push Foz and 'The Monk' all season for a starting spot. A quiet, likeable lad who is only let down by a shocking ginger barnet.
Chris 'Sailor' Rea - Defender
The prodigal son returns. We welcome back Chris after a year spent at Rye Utd; a season that saw Chris becoming the then County One sides most outstanding player, a point demonstrated by his clearing up at the clubs annual presentation night. He has returned a better player from a season at the higher level and his returning to the club was the 'final piece in the puzzle' in the eyes of the management team. A born leader who wears his heart on his sleeve. Thunderous in the tackle and becoming more accomplished on the ball with every game. Is still the brunt of the jokes for his 'metrosexual' behaviour including his love of 'Sun Showers' amongst other things!
Paul 'H' Henty - Defender
The kind of centre-back that makes me glad I play in midfield these days. As mild mannered as they come but frighteningly solid on the pitch. A barrel of a man who tackles harder than any player I've come up against. Calm in possession but sadly gets a noise bleed if he drifts too far over the halfway line (not that I'll be the one to tell him).
Ashley 'Growler/The Hair' Paine - Defender
Another returning face and one the management team where delighted to welcome back to the team after a season spent at Hastings Town. A tall and deceptively quick centre-back who marshals the backline fantastically. His growing talents on the field are only let down by the most ridiculous 'Maldini' wanna-be haircut, although I'm sure there will be more than one centre-forward leaving the pitch this season slightly bruised and battered for making the mistake of telling him so.
Jamie 'Poddy ' Podmore - Defender
After an up and down period which saw Jamie head to Rye Utd only to return later in the season, he has produced one of the most impressive pre-seasons from any member of the squad and with the return of his confidence finds himself back in contention for a starting place. An aerially-dominant defender who has made some 300 Westfield appearances to date, despite a spat of injuries. Jamie also works hard behind the scenes of the club and while ridiculed somewhat in the dressing room as the Parishoner’s very own ‘Stato’, remains an important member of the club and an asset to both club and the management team.
Ben 'Van' Ridgeway - Defender
A man mountain with huge potential. A raw talent who joined the club last season and became a regular starter before injury struck at the tail-end of the season. At times frightening in the air and for a man of his size surprisingly swift across the pitch. Needs to be less impetuous and more disciplined but in doing so could fast become one of the best centre-backs in the county. An ex-copper who will be more than willing to demonstrate the use of the 'Mandibular Angle' to any forwards if so asked.
Stephen 'Irish' Kelly
Another player the management team were delighted to able to add to this seasons squad. A versatile defender who loves to tackle and push forward in equal measure. He's comfortable all across the back four and as a holding midfielder. A fantastic addition to the club who will be pushing all season for a starting place, a fact Mr Harris is all too aware of as the teams long serving right back.
Jack 'To Young to Have Earnt One' Graham – Defender
A youngster who after impressing last season in the under 18's and reserves has seen himself deservedly promoted to a permanent member of the first team squad. Incredibly calm and mature in possession and a player who the management expect to see big things from this season. A player with fantastic potential who was sort after by clubs at a higher level but whom the team were delighted to able to keep old of for another season at least.
Ben 'I'm Not Doing That' Pepper – Defender
One of the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet. Highly under-rated as a player by both himself and over the years those around him, but has shown in pre-season what an asset he could be to the team. Fiercely committed and will die for the course but has shown over the past few months quality on the ball that has surprised many. As for the nick-name...just don't ask.
David ‘Windy’ Miller- Defender/midfielder
Broke into the Westfield side towards the end of 2003/04. Transferred to Sidley midway through 2005/06 but was back at his old club from the start of the following season. Lightening pace and quick feet make him an asset to any team. His trade-mark weaving runs produced the two goals of the season last year (even if he should have passed on both occasions). New joint head of the 'fine committee' who also has a clear love for '2 ½ minutes' or at least his behavior would sometimes lead you to believe so. And as a word of advice, never drink a thing this man gives you.
Sam 'Ljungberg' Jameson - Midfielder/Forward
Another player to rise through the ranks and force his way successfully into the squad, becoming a regular on any team sheet. An aggressive and powerful attacking midfielder, who will run through a brick wall for the cause. Works tirelessly for the team and has a tremendous eye for goal with a calmness in front of the sticks that many strikers would die for.
Lawrence 'Brando' Brand - Midfielder:
One of a clutch of long serving players at Westfield, having made some 300 appearances for the club. The 'Pin Man' in the Westfield midfield, always eager to get on the ball and play. Comfortable in tight possession, with great vision and the ability to turn the game at the flip of a coin. Has an excellent range of passing and liking for the odd tasty tackle. When Brando is in the mood, he's the man that makes the team tick.
Andy 'Garmo' Garmand – Midfielder
Another of the new additions to the new look Westfield side, who has finally recovered after a brief 'Ibizan' sabbatical that saw him go walk-about and miss the start of pre-season! An experienced County League player who has played for a host of clubs and was integral in Bexhill Town's promotion last season. Strong, quick and skillful, Garmo is a formidable winger who delivers a tremendous ball while still in full flight, a factor that has been demonstrated already in pre-season and has Mr Clarke licking his lips for the coming campaign.
Alan 'AJ' Johnson - Midfielder
Another of a crop of players who have come through the ranks to establish themselves as first team regulars. A right sided midfielder with a cultured right foot. Tremendous crosser of a ball from open play and dead balls. Has been criticized for his 'Molby-esc' work rate in the past but has begun to put the claim to rest with an impressive and hard working display through pre-season.
Matt 'Slinky' Dadswell - Midfielder
Has been the most impressive performer in pre-season by a long stretch. Tall, gangly character, who has proven that all he needed was a good pre-season under his belt to start demonstrating what a class act he can be in the middle of the park. Has the wonderful quality of being able to keep everything simple. Neat and tidy in possession and hardworking off the ball. If he continues like this he won't simple be keeping certain past regulars on their toes but keeping them firmly routed to the bench.
Graham 'Dorris' Morris – Midfielder
Like Matt produced a fantastic display in pre-season before disappearing to South Africa for a month to get married. A leader and an integral part of the side. Naturally fit and incredibly comfortable on the ball, the management team fully expect Graham, like Matt, to be demanding a starting place no sooner than he's back in the country in September. A consummate professional and irritatingly keen, a complete clown and a guy you can’t help but like (love would be stretching it!)
Louis 'To Young To Have Earned One' Bradbury – Midfielder/Forward
Fits nicely into the same mould as Jack Graham as a player that Duncan, Tony and Mark were delighted to promote from the youth team. Bundles of talent and potential; aggressive and tenacious, and more than a handful for any accomplished County League defender. His love of a tackle has seen him dropping into midfield in much the same fashion as our very own Mr Jones, the only difference being that Louis actually 'can' tackle and doesn't just like to think he can. A player with huge potential who the team are expecting big things from this season and as with Jack was sort after by clubs at a higher level but thankful decided to ply his trade at the Parish Field for now at least.
James 'Billy' Carmen - Midfielder/Forward
James is another long serving player, but has not really made the impact he is more than capable of over the years. A regular in the reserves over recent seasons where he as become an integral player. With the right commitment and attitude can force his way into the first team reckoning on a regular basis. Cultured and 'dies' for the cause!!
Danny 'Peps' Pepper - Midfielder/Forward
Quiet simply a force of nature on the pitch. Powerful and aggressive he is a handful for any County League defense. Really came into his own in 2006/2007 showing not only a great work ethic but also an eye for the net and in the process keeping the clubs leading scorer Duncan Jones rooted to the bench for a huge portion of the season. Can play centrally or wide and would be an asset to any team. Also sports a cracking dress sense that only he could pull off.
Dominic 'Dirk Diggler' Clarke - Forward
A class act. Regarded by those at the club as quite simply the best target man in the league if not County, a fact that was perfectly demonstrated by the number of 'tempting' offers he had to leave over the off season. An old school striker in the mould of Van Nistleroy or Vieri. A bigman with great feet who has grown to become the lead of the Westfield attack. Keeping Dom was a huge vote of confidence for the new management team and a massive boost to the whole squad. Now having talked him up so much it's down to him to deliver on the pitch or risk making the man writing this look a right pratt!
Peter 'Spider-Pig' Baker - Forward
A Westfield lad at heart who returns to the club last season from Sidley. Has scored goals at all levels throughout his career and remains one of the sweetest strikers of a ball in County League Football. His arrival made for a formidable Westfield attack and leaves Mark, Duncan and Tony with a wealth of options. Possesses great vision and a tremendous range of passing and is one of the few players in the league who can single handedly bring home the three points.
Darrol ‘Warrol’ Parris - Reserve Team Manager / Forward
Darrols eleventh season at the club. A prolific goal scoring legend at every club he has been at, which include Hastings Town, Lewes, St Leonards. At bad knee injury kept him out of action for two years but he has recaptured his old form by collecting the clubs Monty Eldridge Leading Goalscorer award for the past two seasons. Darrol is in his second season as reserve team manager and still harbours aspirations of a first team recall.
