Reserves Ease Past Hollington (
January 03, 2010)
Darrol Parris's men cruised into the next round of the Hastings Intermediate Cup yesterday, following the 4-1 defeat of East Sussex Premier League side Hollington United at the impressive refurbished Gibbons Field Ground.
Despite the First team game being called off, none of them dropped down but Parris was still able to call on an experienced side with no less than 8 players in the squad who have represented the front side this season.
The first goal arrived early on in the first half, when James Carmen converted a penalty after it was him who had been fouled after a good through ball from Parris.
The second goal was scored by Parris himself following a delightful slide rule pass by Sam Jamison. Into the second half and Parris was again involved this time hitting the post whilst one on one with the keeper but Shaun Smith was on hand to fire home the rebound.
After changes to give the whole 14 on duty a run out including a return for Alan Johnson , the hosts rallied and pulled one back and could have had at least one more including a goal dissallowed when the referee failed to play the advantage.
The Westies made Hollington pay and they wrapped the game up in the last minute when a proffessional foul by Hollington Keeper Scott Greenaway led to Carmen slamming home his second spot kick of the day to complete a comfortable afternoons work for the reserves.
After the game Parris said he was please with the reaction of the player second half after a half time rant "I felt the defence performed better in 2nd half in particular young mark dowling who maybe with a bit more experience may push on to the 1st in the next year or so"
A special mention must go to the 30 or so Westfield supporters who braved the elements and watched the boys in action and also to Hollington United for the hospitality and hard work in actually getting the game on.
The reserves next game is scheduled to be this coming Saturday when they visit Little Common Reserves in the league with a 1.45pm kick off
