Westies lose to odd goal in seven (
December 12, 2009)
Westfield travelled to Culver Road this afternoon the headquarters of the Sussex FA and came away on the wrong side of a 4-3 scoreline.
After a scoreless first half you could not really see a goal fest materializing like it did in the second half. The Westies were neat and tidy in the first half but without having the same comitment and determination that was so evident against Southwick the previous week.
Within a couple of minutes of the resumption Lancing took the lead following a swift counter attack, shortly after that they doubled there lead before Warren Parsons ended his mini goal drought to half the arrears.
Midway through the second period Lancing again increased there lead, only again to be pegged back thanks to sub Andy Garmen, the see saw match had another twist with Lancing going down to ten men before they struck a 4th. Lee Wood pulled the visitors to within one again late on to set up a frantic last few minutes but Lancing held on, as the Westies could not follow up on last weeks good win down at Old Barn Way. After the game joint boss Tony Harris confirmed that Former Rye United Midfielder Nathan Harding had signed for the club and was expected to be involved this weekend.
The Reserves bounced back from last weeks 9-1 hammering at hands of Mile Oak with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Hooe Sports in the Hastings Intermediate Cup.
Darrol Parris's side had a much more experienced look to it this afternoon including Carl Barton and Sam Jamison and the suprisingly early inclusion of Jamie Podmore who has been troubled by a sporting hernia ever since his transfer from Sidley back in early September but he was fit enough for his first appearance of the Season.
Sam Jamsion put the visitors ahead when latching onto a long ball he superbly lobbed the Hooe keeper who was caught in no mans land.
Despite being in control for long periods of the game it took until 64 minutes for the second goal, Shaun Smith stabbing home from close range. Sub Neil Liao rounded off the victory with a close range finish.
