Weekends County League Round-Up (
November 25, 2009)

With the weather starting to play a part in matches within the league it was nice to be able to see so many fixtures fulfilled and with that credit goes to all those groundsmen out there.
East Preston travelled to Eastbourne United being steered by their temporary management team since the departure of Trevor Waller knowing that their 26 place difference in league positions would be a huge factor. Dallaway gave EUA the lead after only seven minutes but credit to East Preston as they played their part in an entertaining match and their deserved equaliser came from Reilly four minutes into the second half. With neither team finding a way through the deadlock and etra time looming, McKenzie sent EUA through right on full time to allow Eastbourne through to the Quarter Finals.
Peacehaven & Telscombe continued their great form in their return to Division One with a second half brace to despatch Selsey in the John O’Hara League Cup third round. Goals from Wilkinson on 70 and Dunk on 75 sent The Tye through to face Arundel in round four.
Seaford Town knocked out their higher division opponents Shoreham in their yo-yo match at Middle Road. Greenall gave the visitors the lead on 13 only for Fogden to equalise two minutes later and then Blundell scored three minutes after that to give the home side the lead. A Jones converted penalty restored parity but midway through the second half, Seaford’s Logan put Town through to face either Ringmer or Wick at home in round four.
In Division One Arundel put their poor league form to bed for a week with a 3-1 win over visitors Lingfield to leapfrog them in the table. Scott Tipper scored a brace on 14 & 41 minutes and ex Rustington defender Tom Pickford scored his first goal for the club on 48 minutes to give The Mullets an unassailable lead that they themselves cut by scoring an own goal a minute from time. Crowboroughs season continued it’s nose dive with another home defeat, this time to Pagham. Cox scored Pagham’s first three minutes from half time and Towers scored their other goal four minutes after half-time to keep Pagham mid table but The Crows firmly rooted at the bottom. East Grinstead Town and Redhill shared seven goals in their match and despite a valiant fight back from The Wasps, The Lobsters came out victors with a goal deep into stoppage time by Difford. Piscina took the lead for EGT after only seven minutes and that lead lasted until the 37th minute when Morris equalised for Redhill. Further goals for the visitors from Elliott on 57 and Bonnett on 62 gave Redhill a 1-3 lead but Town fought back with two goals in two minutes, the first from the spot from Piscina on 78, and the second from Sinclair to apparently earn the draw until Difford scored the winner.
At the top of the table, Whitehawk left it very late to win their game away to Ringmer, who must be annoyed at being able to match their top of the table opponents for 85 minutes until Tate scored and then Davis doubling the lead on 87 to get all three points. Wick maintained the pressure on The Hawks when they despatched St Francis Rangers 3-0 with a 22 minute first half hat-trick from George Gaskin. As they appeared to run rampant and promised more goals, a formation change from Rangers and a deluge of rain evened up their contest and the score remained the same despite some good efforts from the Rangers strikers. Chichester City also maintained their push around the top with their 1-3 away victory at Hailsham Town who took the lead when Alexander scored on 13 minutes. Chi dug in and 16 minutes into the second half scored their equaliser when Brown found the net and it remained that way until four minutes from time when Long took the lead and then Brockway put the tie beyond doubt on 89.
The Division Two Cup third round match between Clymping and Worthing United took an unusual twist when the referee was forced to abandon the match at half time with Clymping leading 1-0, when the lineman took ill and a disagreement ensued about a continuance. That match will go to a “stewards enquiry” as obviously neither side were aware of the rule that allows the game to continue with only two officials. Littlehampton Town will meet the winners of that game. Adedoja scored their first after only four minutes but Eldridge equalised for Little Common on 10. Matt Russell took the tie from the penalty spot on 36 to put The Golds through. Loxwood will meet either Seaford Town or Rye United as Bowles scored the only goal of their game at home Lancing midway through the second half on 63 minutes.
In Division Two Rustington almost built on their first win in thirteen mid week away to East Preston as they recovered from a goal down from Rhodes of Steyning Town (49) with a strike from now fit striker Andy Boxall and a header from captain Brett Neal on 73, but it wasn't to be as Steyning weren’t invited to the winning party and Hearne earned them their equaliser 8 minutes from time.
Rye United took advantage of Worthing United cup game to extend their lead at the top of the division to four points with their 4-2 win at home to Southwick. An own goal from the visitors on 18 minutes gave Rye a lead that was held until the second half when Ryan Walton despatched a penalty on 55 minutes to equalise. That hope was ended two minutes later when Ellis scored for the home side to restore the lead and then he braced on 73 minutes and then Clarke increased the lead three minutes after that to put the game beyond Southwick, except for Rye returning the own goal favour five minutes from time to end the scoring. Storrington rose to mid table in Division Two with their 3-0 home win over higher placed Oakwood. A third minute goal from Humphreys put them on their way and in the second half, Grantham (55) and Harding (82) extended the goal difference.
Sidley United thumped Midhurst into their eleventh league defeat with seven goals from six different players scoring for the home side and the score only 1-0 at half time with the previous 44 minutes being goal-less as Rose opened the scoring. Barden issued the intention of the home side three minutes into the second half that opened a ten minute four goal haul completed by Spice (53), Taylor (56) and hesner (58) before Whyborn scored the sixth and the Rose braced on 78.
On Sunday, ground hopping Westfield fell to a “home” defeat at the feet of Wealden when Hickman (23) and Turner (29) gave Wealden the deserved three points which leaves Westfield mid table but lifts Wealden up to third in the table.
In Division Three Bosham took advantage of Bexhill United’s free weekend and their game in hand with the 0-3 win away to Rottingdean Village. Miles (41), Phillips (63) and Collino (75) scored in their win that puts them four points clear in top spot. Uckfield Town made up ground on Bexhill as well, although their win at home to Saltdean United gives Bexhill a game in hand over them. Uckfield came from two goals down after a Reece brace (9 & 31) for Saltdean with their lifeline on 37 from Gould and the equaliser on 47 from Mitchell before Smith sealed the win on 61.
Broadbridge Heath leap frogged over Hurstpierpoint in the league with their 2-1 home win despite being 0-1 down after ‘Pier’s sixth minute goal from Hall gave the visitors the lead. James rescued the game and won it for them with his 47th & 82nd minute brace. Forest hauled themselves off the bottom of the division with their second win of the league season away to Newhaven. A single goal from Coles ten minutes from time gave them the much needed win.
Sidlesham also rose together with Forest with their 1-3 away win over Pease Pottage Village in their battle of the bottom clash. Coby (15) and Jackson (35) scored with no reply in the first half and the goal Hayes pulled back on 74 was cancelled out by Johnson ten minutes from time.
TD Shipley and Dorking Wanderers couldn’t agree who was going to win their match as they exchanged the lead to leave a 2-2 draw the fair result. Cooper gave the visitors the lead on 31 but that was taken away by Curtis ten minutes after the restart which he then braced to give TD the lead three minutes later. Burgess gave Dorking the deserved equaliser on 77 minutes which leaves both sides firmly mid table.
